David A. Scott is Director of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and is a Professor, Department of Critical Care, Faculty of Medicine, University of Melbourne. His current research focusses on outcomes - including acute pain and safety of postoperative opioids, patient blood management, and in particular the neurocognitive effects of anaesthesia and surgery, especially cardiac surgery, with a focus on delirium - how inflammation may drive this, and how multidisciplinary perioperative care may improve outcomes. He has been a cardiac anaesthetist for over three decades, and is the Australian Chief Investigator for the Transfusion Requirements in Cardiac Surgery in Younger Patients (TRICS-IV) study. He is a CI on the national funded PROTECT trial investigating perioperative optimisation for improved cognitive outcomes.
